Cardiovascular risk and nutrition Montse Fitó

We are a multidisciplinary team with broad background, including nutrition, endocrinology, molecular biology, epidemiology, analytical chemistry, and food science. The most remarkable contributions of our group have been achieved by investigating how nutrients, foods, and dietary patterns relate to chronic, highly prevalent diseases. While we have mostly focused on cardiovascular disease, we expanded our interest to brain health given the close relationship between the cardiovascular risk and neurodegenerative diseases.

We promoted and participated in many randomized controlled trials on diet and vascular risk (PREDIMED-Plus; PREDIMED; EUROLIVE; VOHF). We have access to data from several cohorts worldwide, including the REGICOR Study (Registre Gironí del Cor) thanks to the partnership with Dr. Marrugat. Furthermore, we have developed partnerships with industry / private sector to promote trials to test functional foods. The group is also affiliated with the national network for the Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN) of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), and is recognized by AGAUR (Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants) as a consolidated SGR research group and the Catalan Nutrition Center of the Institute of Catalan Studies (CCNIEC)
