Jordi Alonso and Joaquim Bellmunt Among the World's Most Cited Researchers, According to Clarivate Ranking

They are included in the list of the 6,636 most cited researchers worldwide, compiled once again this year by the company.

Two researchers from the Hospital del Mar Research Institute are once again among the most cited in the world, according to the Highly Cited Researcher ranking recently published by Clarivate Plc, a company specializing in bibliometrics, business intelligence, and market analysis. The researchers are Dr. Jordi Alonso and Dr. Joaquim Bellmunt, who have been recognized for the relevance of their published studies within their respective fields of expertise.

This year's list features 6,636 researchers from 1,200 institutions across 59 countries. Only 99 of them are affiliated with institutions in Spain.

Dr. Jordi Alonso has been included in this ranking since 2018, classified in the interdisciplinary field. He is the coordinator of the Health Services Research Group at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, Professor of Public Health in the Department of Medicine and Health Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University, and an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. He also serves as the Deputy Scientific Director of CIBER in Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP).

Dr. Joaquim Bellmunt has been listed since 2020. He is currently the coordinator of the Urological Cancer Research Group at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute and serves as the Director of the Bladder Cancer Center at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center in Boston, United States.

The Highly Cited Researcher ranking is compiled by selecting authors who have published multiple studies that rank in the top 1% most cited in their field of work and year of publication on the Web of Science platform over the past decade. However, the selection process considers not only publications but also other qualitative factors.

In this year's list, the United States and China contribute more than half of the researchers. In terms of institutions, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Harvard University, and Stanford University are the leading contributors.
