Three Professionals from Hospital del Mar Recognized by the Barcelona Medical Association

Dr. Cristina Farriols, Dr. Clara Montagut, and Dr. Lluís Recasens will receive the Professional Excellence Awards on November 25 in recognition of their careers.

The Colegio de Médicos de Barcelona will recognize the careers of three professionals from Hospital del Mar at the upcoming Professional Excellence Awards. The honorees are Dr. Cristina Farriols, Dr. Clara Montagut, and Dr. Lluís Recasens. The award ceremony will take place on November 25 at the Axa Auditorium of Illa Diagonal.

Dr. Cristina Farriols, Head of the Palliative Care Section in the Geriatrics Department at Hospital del Mar, will receive the award in the category of Other Care Areas. Dr. Farriols is a specialist in Geriatrics and holds a Ph.D. in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her interest in palliative care led her to complete a Master's in Palliative Care for Patients with Advanced Illnesses at UB-ICO, and she has been closely associated with the Catalan-Balearic Society of Palliative Care. She is also an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at Pompeu Fabra University.

Dr. Cristina Farriols

Dr. Clara Montagut is the Head of the Gastrointestinal Tumors Section in the Medical Oncology Department and leads the Colorectal Cancer Precision Medicine Research Group at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute. She is also a professor at UPF. A graduate in Medicine and Surgery from UAB, she specialized in Oncology at Hospital Clínic and completed her training in the United States. She will be awarded in the category of Biomedical Research.

Dr. Lluís Recasens is the Clinical Chief of the Cardiology Department at Hospital del Mar and a researcher at its research institute. He will receive the award in the Hospital Care Medicine category. Educated at UB, he specialized at Hospital Clínic. He has contributed to developing protocols for the Cardiology Department and has specialized in managing dyslipidemia in secondary prevention with hospital-dispensed treatments.

The Barcelona Medical Association's Professional Excellence Awards are given to doctors who have distinguished themselves throughout their careers by embodying the essential values of the medical profession, such as honesty, commitment, altruism, and integrity. In 2024, the awards reach their twentieth edition, honoring 51 professionals and four multidisciplinary care teams.
