2023 Epilepsy Award from the Spanish Society of Neurology for Dr. Rodrigo Rocamora.

The director of the center's Epilepsy Unit and coordinator of the Epilepsy Research Group at its research institute has received this distinction at the society's institutional event, held in Santiago de Compostela.

Dr. Rodrigo Rocamora has received the 2023 Epilepsy Award in its scientific category from the Spanish Society of Neurology. The award ceremony took place during the society's institutional event, held on June 6 in Santiago de Compostela.

The award recognizes the significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge and treatment of epilepsy by the current director of the Epilepsy Unit at Hospital del Mar and coordinator of the Epilepsy Research Group at its research institute. Dr. Rocamora stated that "from the epilepsy unit at Hospital del Mar, various techniques have been introduced, such as stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), robotic surgery, laser use (LiTT), or electrothermocoagulation (ETC), which have significantly contributed to the development of the field in Spain." This, combined with leading research in various areas, has positioned the group as an international reference in the field of epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Unit at the hospital has just celebrated its 15th anniversary by expanding its facilities with six beds for video electroencephalography monitoring, making it one of the largest in the country. It is accredited in Catalonia as part of the Functional Epilepsy Surgery Unit, also coordinated by Dr. Rocamora, and is part of the network of clinical expertise units of Catalonia (XUEC) in rare diseases and a state CSUR center for complex cases. It is also one of the three centers of the European Commission that are part of the EPICare European epilepsy network.
