Dr. Arnau Busquets, coordinator of the Cellular Mechanisms in Physiological and Pathological Behavior Research Group at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, has won one of the runner-up awards at the 60th Anniversary Farmaindustria Young Researchers Prize. The winner of the prize was Cristina Mayor-Ruiz, from the Biomedical Research Institute of Barcelona. The awards were presented on April 18 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
The jury highlighted "the difficulty in choosing the awardees among the twenty finalist candidates and the 113 applications received, all of which were of an excellent level, confirming the great pool of young talent that exists in Spanish biomedical research". Four runner-up awards were granted to the most meritorious profiles.
In the case of Dr. Busquets, he was chosen for his research in the field of neuroscience and cannabinoid drugs. His work focused on a new therapeutic target for fragile X syndrome has generated a patent and has opened up the possibility of developing new drugs, which are being tested in people with Down syndrome. The jury wanted to highlight his publications and the translational approach of his research.
The 60th Anniversary Farmaindustria Young Researchers Prize was created to commemorate the sixty years of this entity.
