In the last quarter of 2007, the new IMIM research organisation was approved for five multi-disciplinary research programmes, comprised of a mixed team of researchers from the IMIM and the PSMAR, formerly IMAS (Hospital del Mar, Hospital de la Esperanza and the Centre Forum, among others).
This new organisational structure entered into effect for all purposes in January 2008 and responded not only to the recommendations made by the Scientific Advisor Board (SAB) but also to the needs and challenges that arise within an organisation like ours, which must boost synergies between the most basic and most clinical of research led by the Hospital del Mar.
These five research programmes, which are subdivided into research groups, are focused on the following topics:
Taking advantage of the new organisation, the new IMIM website was launched on 15 March 2008 and was positioned number one in Spain, number 37 in Europe and 121 in the world, according to the ranking compiled by the CSIC Cybermetrics Lab, based on an analysis of more than 18,000 health-related websites from all over the world.
Also noteworthy is the fact that the IMIM was one of the top ten Spanish centres both as regards scientific publications as well as the number of patients received according to the report "Bibliometric characterisation of scientific production in Catalonia, 1996-2006". Lluís Rovira, Raül Isaac Méndez-Vásquez, Eduard Suñén-Pinyol and Jordi Camí.
On 16 December 2013, the Accreditation Committee of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) approved the acreditation of IMIM as a Health Research Institute, which was ratified by the State Secretarial of Research, Development and Innovation for the Order of 17 February 2014.
Likewise, in 2013 IMIM was recognized as a CERCA Center, a recognition that guarantees the quality of its performance and the excellence of its scientific results.
