Lung cancer research at Hospital del Mar and the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute has received a new boost thanks to the Friends of the Hospital del Mar Foundation and APRO, the Association for Oncological Research. The two organisations have managed to raise 8,000 euros, which will be used to support the work of researchers in this field.

The President of the Friends of the Hospital del Mar Foundation, Xavier Trias, emphasised that "The two organisations have joined forces, we are stronger, and this translates into greater support for research. A fact that sums up our identity and our work." Dr. Joaquim Bellmunt, President of APRO, acknowledged that "Actions like this are a small return that society makes to the researchers who do so much to help us progress in the fight against this disease."
The donation is the result of a charity dinner organised a year prior to the pandemic in the gardens of the Real Club de Polo with the aim of raising funds for lung cancer research. Items donated by personalities such as the motorbike racer Marc Márquez, the brothers Pau and Marc Gasol, and the swimmer Ona Carbonell were auctioned off.
