Hospital del Mar Research Institute is organising four visits to discover two of the projects funded by La Marató. Have you signed up yet?

Hospital del Mar Research Institute is once again taking part in the initiative "Visita la recerca de La Marató", promoted by the Fundació La Marató de TV3, opening its doors and bringing biomedical research closer to the public in order to show the impact of the projects funded thanks to solidarity.

In this edition, the institute is organising four guided visits between May and June, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The aim is to present two projects funded through the 2021 Mental Health La Marató and the 2022 Cardiovascular Health La Marató, focused on two major health challenges: suicide prevention and stroke.

On 21 and 22 May, Dr Philippe Mortier and Dr Manuel Pastor will explain a project aimed at improving the detection of patients at risk of suicide. Through two fictional cases, based on plausible situations, visitors will be able to learn how artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques can help identify risk factors and protective factors, and thus contribute to a better clinical assessment.

On 9 and 10 June, Dr Joan Jiménez Balado will present the Stopped-Stroke project, focused on the study of epigenetic variations associated with stroke risk. Despite the weight of genetics in this disease, its occurrence cannot be explained by inheritance alone. For this reason, this research also analyses the role of factors influenced by habits and lifestyle, with the aim of better understanding the mechanisms involved in stroke and identifying possible future therapeutic targets.

Hospital del Mar Research Institute is one of the 14 research centres taking part in this initiative, created in 2015 to bring research closer to society and to offer social return and transparency regarding the funds raised by La Marató.

The visits are free and open to all citizens, with prior registration through the website: visitesrecercamarato.tv3.cat
