The Congress of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology appoints Dr. María Martínez as a new member of the SEOM Board of Directors

At the same congress, held in Madrid from 11 to 14 November, Dr. Jenniffer Linares received a research intensification grant for young investigators.

Dr. María Martínez, Head of the Neuro-oncology Section at Hospital del Mar and researcher at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, has been elected as a new member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), following the vote held during the SEOM2025 congress. The vote served to partially renew the organisation's governing body, with the candidacy led by Dr. Antonio González, from the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, elected as the new vice-president of the Board.

Dr. Martínez is confident that she will "be able to help implement clinical projects and bring forward my interest and experience in managing tumours considered orphan diseases, such as brain tumours." The current Board is chaired by Dr. Javier de Castro, from Hospital La Paz in Madrid.

Research grant for Dr. Jenniffer Linares

At the same congress, Dr. Jenniffer Linares, from the Cancer Precision Medicine Research Group (Colon and Rectal Cancer) at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, received one of the seventy grants awarded by SEOM, with a total funding of 1.3 million euros. Specifically, she received a grant aimed at promoting research among young investigators, sponsored by the company Boehringer Ingelheim. These grants focus on fostering training and clinical research among specialists in oncology.
