The Col·legi de Metges de Barcelona awards three Professional Excellence Prizes to three professionals from Hospital del Mar

The awards ceremony for Dr. Xavier Nogués, Dr. Gloria Nohales, and Dr. Antoni Payà will take place on December 1. These prizes recognize their outstanding professional careers.

Dr. Xavier Nogués, Dr. Gloria Nohales, and Dr. Antoni Payà are three of the professionals who will receive, on December 1, one of the Professional Excellence Prizes awarded by the Col·legi de Metges de Barcelona. These distinctions acknowledge their career achievements and will be presented at a ceremony held at the Axa Auditorium in L'Illa Diagonal.

Dr. Xavier Nogués, Emeritus Head of the Internal Medicine Service, Director of the Translational Research Program at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, and coordinator of its Musculoskeletal Research Group, will receive the award in the category of Biomedical Research. He has served as president of the Spanish Society for Bone and Mineral Metabolism Research (SEIOMM) and as coordinator of the program of interventions for the prevention, management, and treatment of frailty within the CIBER network on Frailty and Healthy Aging (CIBERFES). His research has focused on bone metabolism, particularly osteoporosis, and on the effects of cancer treatments on bone mass loss. In this field, he has developed the microindentation technique. He is also an associate professor at Pompeu Fabra University.

Dr. Xavier Nogués

Dr. Gloria Nohales is a consultant in the Urology Service and Deputy Medical Director at Hospital del Mar. She will receive the award in the category of Medical Education and Training. A graduate in Medicine and specialist in Urology, she has worked at Pius Hospital de Valls, Sant Joan de Reus Hospital, Platón Hospital, and Hospital del Mar. Since 2018, she has been Head of Studies and Chair of the Teaching Commission, as well as an elected member of the Standing Committee of the Subdirectorate of Professional Regulation at the Department of Health. She has also served on the Executive Board of the Spanish Society for Specialized Health Training.

Dra. Gloria Nohales

Dr. Antoni Payà is Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service and a researcher in the Barcelona Infertility Research Group at HMRIB. He will receive the Professional Excellence Prize in the category of Medicine and Hospital Care. He holds a degree in Medicine and General Surgery, is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and earned his PhD in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Since 1991, he has pursued his professional career at Hospital del Mar, where he currently leads the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service. In the academic field, he is also an associate professor at Pompeu Fabra University.

Dr. Antoni Payà

The Professional Excellence Prizes of the Col·legi de Metges de Barcelona (COMB) are awarded to physicians in recognition of careers distinguished by commitment, honesty, altruism, integrity, and excellence. The awards are given in the fields of primary care medicine, hospital care medicine, medicine in other healthcare settings, biomedical research, medical education and training, and the humanities, cooperation, and management. The 2025 edition marks their 21st year.
