The project "Identification of catastrophic DNA events (chromoanagenesis) through optical genome mapping in chronic lymphocytic leukemia: characterization and clinical impact" has received one of the grants awarded by the Spanish Foundation of Hematology and Hemotherapy (FEHH), within the framework of the 67th Congress of the Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy, held in Oviedo from October 9 to 11. The grant was awarded to Joanna Kamaso, predoctoral researcher of the Translational Research Group in Hematologic Neoplasms at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute.

In total, ten grants were awarded during the congress, but only one -the one received by the HMRIB group- was granted by the Spanish Group of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (GELLC). The study is led by Dr. Blanca Espinet and Dr. Anna Puiggros, and is part of the FIS project awarded in 2024 by the Carlos III Health Institute. The research team includes members from the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, the Molecular Cytogenetics and Hematologic Cytology Laboratories of the Pathology Department, integrated in the dibi network, and the Clinical Hematology Department of Hospital del Mar.
The grant has a duration of one year.
