Every year, on the last Friday of September, more than 300 cities in 30 European countries celebrate the European Researcher's Night, a scientific dissemination project promoted by the Horizon Europe program of the European Union. Although this year's Research Night is on September 27, the activities will take place until October 1.
This initiative aims to bring research, innovation and its protagonists to the public in a simple and fun way. Thus, all kinds of public, from schools, families and children to young people or adults of all ages, can learn about and participate in the science of their territory through various activities such as workshops, lectures, shows, experiments, astronomical observations and games.
This year the institution participates with two talks in the section Mornings of research where researchers go to the schools. One of the talks will be given by Dr. Francina Fonseca, assistant physician, director of the addictions process of the Mental Health Institute of the Hospital del Mar and researcher of the Addictions Group of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, with the title "Addictions: Vice or disease".
The other talk will be given by Dr. Santiago Batlle, specialist in Clinical Psychology, assistant to the Director of the Community Process and Special Programs also at the Mental Health Institute and is entitled "Don't believe everything that happens to you, do you know how your brain interprets reality?
Likewise, the researcher's night website has a space called European Corner that gives visibility to European projects. Two projects were presented: the EuCanScreen Project, which works to improve early cancer detection programs in the European Union. One of the participating groups is the one from our center that is in charge of building a public statistical data environment for all citizens and is led by Dr. Andrea Buron, head of Cancer Prevention and Registration at the Hospital del Mar and researcher in the Epidemiology and Public Health Program at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute.
The TARGET Project, dedicated to the study of atrial fibrillation and one of its most serious consequences, stroke, was also presented. The project is led by Dr. Eva Giralt, assistant physician of the Neurology Service of the Hospital del Mar and researcher of the Neurovascular Research Group and Esther Duarte, head of emeritus service of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and coordinator of the rehabilitation research group of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute.
