Twenty professionals from the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute and Hospital del Mar are included in the World's Top 2% Scientist ranking of Standford University.

This list takes into account the most cited scientists in various disciplines, divided into 22 fields of knowledge.

Stanford University, in the United States, has just published the update of the list that represents the 2% of the most cited scientists in various disciplines. The World's Top 2% Scientist, which includes more than 200,000 of the more than eight million science professionals considered to be active in the world, includes 22 professionals from the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute and the Hospital del Mar in its two rankings, the one that takes into account their entire career and the one that focuses on the last few years.

Among the most outstanding is Dr. Jordi Alonso, in the category of Psychiatry, who ranks number two among the specialists in Spain and is among the 8,000 most outstanding scientists in the world. In the same category is Dr. Francesc Colom, the sixth in Spain. We must also mention Dr. Jordi Mestres, coordinator of the Systems Pharmacology Research Group of the GRIB (IMIM/UPF), who is the fifth in the State in the field of Biomolecular and Medicinal Chemistry. On the other hand, Laura Furlong is one of only three scientists in the State in the Bioinformatics category.

The two lists also include Joan Albanell, Francisco Álvarez Lerma, Joaquín Arribas, Esther Barreiro, Xavier Castells, Marta Crespo, Rafael de la Torre, Adolfo Díez Pérez, Mara Dierssen, Roberto Elosua, Montse Ferrer, Fernando G. Benavides and Joaquim Gea, as well as Manuel Pera, Julio Pascual, Luis A. Pérez Jurado, Jordi Segura and Helmut Schröder.
